Who We Are

The Sumak Wallpary Cultural Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization with a social purpose, based in Otavalo, Imbabura province. We were founded with the commitment to preserve ancestral values, human dignity, and the transformative power of art as a vehicle for identity, dialogue, and community development.

The name Sumak Wallpary comes from the Kichwa language and means "beautiful creation." This concept encapsulates the vision that guides our journey: understanding culture and art as a collective act of beauty, born from the memory of peoples and projected toward the future. Sumak expresses fullness, harmony and what is beautiful in essence; Wallpary evokes the act of creating, giving life, and forging connections. Together, they inspire us to build spaces where artistic creation is not only contemplated, but also transforms, heals, teaches, and mobilizes.

Our work is aimed at:

01.

To rescue and strengthen cultural identity through the visual, musical, performing, and photographic arts.

02.

Accompanying children, youth, indigenous peoples, and marginalized communities, recognizing them as bearers of memory and future.

03.

Defend Pachamama, understanding that nature is the fundamental pillar of life and of all artistic and cultural creation.

In this sense, Sumak Wallpary projects itself as a bridge between the ancestral and the contemporary, between the indigenous worldview and global challenges. We believe that culture is not only preserved, but also constantly reinvented to respond to the challenges of our time, generating inclusion, environmental awareness, and social cohesion.

Mission

Strengthen cultural identity by promoting artistic creation, community development, social inclusion, and environmental awareness through creative, educational, and collaborative initiatives.

Vision

To be a national and international benchmark in the generation of cultural projects with social impact, building bridges between ancestral memory and the contemporary challenges of art, community, and nature.
